Billing Management Services

Growing your family through surrogacy is an exciting, emotion-filled journey requiring attention to many details. The last thing intended parents and surrogates need is to stay on top of the flurry of medical bills involved throughout the surrogate’s pregnancy and delivery. We focus on these details, ensuring bills get paid on time so intended parents and their surrogate can concentrate on a healthy pregnancy and preparing for the arrival of their newborn.

Our experienced team professionally manages and pays those medical bills with IFI’s billing management service, coordinating with intended parents, surrogates, agencies, doctors, and hospitals. Without a case management team, intended parents face the possibility of excessive or incorrect billing, persistent collection agencies, and navigating a complicated system that few people are familiar with.

The benefits of contracting with IFI for billing management include:

  • Reduced stress
  • Saved time
  • Avoided excessive charges
  • Experienced advocates to handle any disputed claims
  • An assigned IFI Medical Billing Specialist to handle the complete billing lifecycle including detailed review and full payment to the maternity related providers from a professionally managed escrow account. (*Customized estimates for medical billing escrow funds required will be sent upon confirmation of pregnancy)

Intended parents can sign up for IFI’s billing management service once insurance policies are in place.

Professional Liability Plan for Agencies

It’s essential to protect your company from lawsuits arising out of real or perceived errors that could expose you to liability. Our team provides agencies with professional liability quotes from multiple providers and reviews plans annually to ensure you continue getting the best possible rate available.

Our extensive experience makes us a trusted ally for agencies that work in the field of assisted reproductive technology, helping them find coverage tailored to meet their needs.

The different types of coverage your business may need include:

  • Small Group Health Insurance
  • General Liability Insurance
  • Professional Liability Insurance
  • Cyber Liability Insurance
  • Workers’ Compensation
  • Directors and Officers
  • Employment Practices Liability Insurance
  • Malpractice Insurance

Local/Outside Monitoring Management

If your egg donor or surrogate lives in a different city or state than where the IVF cycle occurs, our monitoring support team finds and vets monitoring clinics local to where she lives. Outside clinics vetted by IFI act as satellite locations for the ordering physician to perform blood tests and ultrasound imaging in the middle of the IVF cycle, which can reduce travel (and travel costs) for your surrogate and/or donor.

This can be a time-consuming, complicated process and can result in intended parents paying higher clinic fees than necessary if they try to find a clinic on their own. This fee-based service is available to surrogacy agencies and clinics, in addition to intended parents. Local monitoring saves both time and money, with an average financial savings of 30% off retail costs.

Frequently Asked Questions

We consider several factors when looking for a local monitoring clinic, including:

  • The proximity of your donor or surrogate to the clinic’s location
  • Whether the facility performs the services requested by your physician
  • Experience of previous patients
  • If it provides test results in a timely manner
  • Services are financially reasonable
  • Does the clinic provide weekend appointments if requested
  • If there’s an in-house lab

You can request other specific criteria that are not listed here.

Some of the main challenges include the time-consuming nature of agencies and intended parents coordinating the logistics. Mishaps that can occur include incorrect or missing lab orders, the clinic’s inability to perform correct tests, or its failure to quickly provide results to the IPs’ clinic. If a clinic isn’t properly vetted, you risk the cancellation or delay of IVF cycles and excessive costs that can add up to thousands of dollars.

Yes. IFI conducts a customized review of the insurance plan benefit summary and requests an estimated amount of funds for expected medical bills to hold in escrow. Our billing team uses these funds to pay providers directly after thoroughly reviewing the claims on each statement the surrogate submits using our secure portal. Parents receive any excess funds remaining in the account at the end of the pregnancy after an audit.

Coordination of benefits (COB) applies to a person who is covered by more than one health plan. We ensure that both plans are filed in the correct order of primary and secondary insurance coverage and processed accordingly. Without proper coordination of benefits, providers may only send claims to one plan, which could be rescinded later for evidence of other insurance and create a billing mess to deal with as far out as 1-2 years after delivery.

Products and services may be subject to change. Not all products available in all states. Underwriting may apply. Please connect with us for details on each policy and service offering.
